Description

A record of the British home computer revolution — and my place in it.

First told live on Twitter in 2021, now compiled, complete, and yours to keep.

Code is Just began as a live Twitter thread in 2021.

I didn’t plan it. I didn’t edit it. I just wrote, line by line, as the story came.

It was my record of the British home computer revolution of the early 1980s — and my place in it. What started as a list of old credits became something else: a story about justice, survival, and finding a voice through code.

The thread took on a life of its own. It was shared widely, praised by broadcasters and developers, even optioned for TV. But what many people asked for was a clean, complete version of the whole thing.

This is that edition:
Compiled and lightly edited for accuracy
With added images and footnotes for clarity
Preserving the immediacy and rawness of the original

At its heart, it remains what it always was:

Code doesn’t lie.

Code doesn’t cheat.

Code is just.
