Update
11 February 2025
After re-checking, it seems that DC have decided to remove their comics from sale as downloadable PDFs.
This is a huge shame for comic readers hopeing to actually own comics, rather than have to continue to pay for access to read them.
I fully support GlobalComix and the huge amount of work they're putting in to supporting both comic readers and creators, but I wish large comic publishers could see the benefit of readers being able to buy and own DRM-free digital copies to keep.
Here's hoping for a change of mind in the future.
Who would have thought that DC would bring their huge collection of digital comics to GlobalComix?
From today you can read online and buy hundreds of DC comics in DRM-free digital format, including Batman, Superman, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Suicide Squad. Even iconic titles like Watchmen or Y: The Last Man, are available to read online or buy to download and keep in PDF format.
DC digital comics is a treasure trove that has until today been a gaping hole in the digital collections of comic readers who enjoy buying and keeping their books in digital formats. Christopher Carter, CEO of GlobalComix says that:
“With 400 books totaling approximately 75,000 pages, DC and DC Vertigo fans will have a wealth of content at their fingertips.”
As I poke around the DC collection on GlobalComix, I keep finding comics I've wanted to read for years, but never felt the desire to "buy" back when I had a Comixology account and not be able to keep them.
The ability to download and keep comics you've actually bought is a huge draw. GlobalComix must have the data to demonstrate how worthwhile this feature is to publishers like DC. There's currently a spotlight on the issue of not being able to keep digital goods you've already bought. A massive media empire like DC bringing their collection to a platform that respects comic readers is a huge positive step, and well done to GlobalComix for doing the hard work. Thank you!
...and who's next, Marvel?
Where will you keep all your new PDF comics?
May I humbly suggest a nice safe and comfy Libreture library?
